Most people think of Norris Lake as a summer place. Couples who stay with us in winter know better. The hot tub room has a glass wall that closes against the cold, so you soak in a warm, glassed-in room looking out at the bare valley, then step straight into a cedar sauna. After that, the fire pit. That sequence is the whole point of a winter weekend here, and it's better in January than in July.

Inside, the villa is warm and quiet: a king Nectar bed with bamboo sheets and extra throws, a SONOS system in the living room, a full kitchen for a long dinner, and a digital pinball machine with 1,300 tables for the evenings. Coffee on the upstairs balcony in the morning is cold and worth it.

Winter rates are lower, the lake is at its quietest, and Knoxville is about 40 minutes if you want a night out. Couples who come in winter tend to come back in winter. And yes, the fire pit works in February.
