How to Plan a Romantic Getaway to Norris Lake

Updated: Sep 25
We've hosted more than 80 couples at Serenity Villa, and we've learned what makes a Norris Lake getaway work. This is the guide we wish every guest had before they booked.
When to go
Anytime, but for different reasons.
May through September is lake season. Warm water, long evenings, boats on the lake. If you're coming to be on the water, this is your window. Weekends book out first.
October is the sleeper. The valley turns color, the days are still warm enough for the lake, and the nights are cool enough that the hot tub and sauna feel earned. If you've never seen fall in East Tennessee, this is the month.
November through March is quiet season. Fewer boats, lower rates, and the villa at its coziest: hot tub room closed against the cold, sauna, fire, pinball, a long dinner. Couples who come in winter tend to come back in winter.
How many nights
Two nights is a reset. Three is a real trip. The couples who stay four or five are the ones who write us the longest reviews, because by day three you stop checking your phone. Minimum stays vary by season and by weekend; the booking calendar shows what applies to your dates.
Getting here
Serenity Villa is in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee, in the hills above Norris Lake. From Knoxville it's about 40 minutes: Highway 33 north through Maynardville, across the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the lake, and up the mountain. From McGhee Tyson Airport, plan on about 55 minutes. You'll want a car. The last stretch is a mountain road, and the exact address comes with your booking confirmation.
What to pack
Less than you think. The villa has a full kitchen with everything, a washer and dryer with detergent, towels, and toiletries. Bring:
Swimsuits, for the hot tub and the lake
Something warm for the balcony in the morning and the fire at night, even in summer
Water shoes if you're boating
A playlist — the SONOS is waiting
Whatever you like to drink. The Margaritaville machine is ready for tequila and limes.
Leave the pets at home. Serenity Villa is pet-free, and that's part of why it stays spotless.
Bringing a boat, or renting one
Bring it. Free parking for four vehicles with room for a trailer, and Lakeview Marina's ramp is five minutes away. If you're renting, Beach Island Marina is eight minutes away with pontoons and watercraft; book ahead for summer weekends.
Special occasions
Anniversaries, honeymoons, birthdays, and more than one proposal have happened here. Tell us in your booking message what you're celebrating and we'll help where we can. The upstairs balcony at sunset and the fire pit under the stars are the two spots people choose when they have something to ask.
Who it's not for
We want to be straight about this, because it's why our reviews are what they are. Serenity Villa is for two adults. There's one king bedroom and one bathroom, both upstairs. It isn't baby-proofed — there are stairs, high balconies, and a hot tub — and we don't host groups, parties, or pets. The primary guest needs to be 25 or older.
